          Port Orford is the site of the battle of Battle Rock where Indians fought off the early settlers of Port Orford until they returned in force years later.
          A Coast Guard Station was in operation until it was decommissioned in 1970. It is now a museum free to the public with fascinating lore and nautical history. For the more outdoorsy folks it has fantastic trails exploring the Coast Guard Hill Heads with excellent views of the ocean where whales and sea lions can be frequently spotted.
          Some activities that are frequently enjoyed here are: bird watching, trail walking/hiking, whale watching, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, surfing, and scuba diving.
